SUMMARY

 

USA Football is seeking a Managing Director, Brand & Marketing Strategy to lead the organization’s enterprise marketing, brand, communications, and event marketing strategy. This role is responsible for shaping how USA Football is positioned in the marketplace while ensuring consistent storytelling, brand expression, and participant engagement across all platforms and experiences.

 

This leader will oversee brand marketing, product marketing, digital marketing, communications, content strategy, and event marketing to create a unified and high-impact brand presence. The role serves as the strategic architect of USA Football’s brand narrative, go-to-market planning, and integrated marketing ecosystem.


RESPONSIBILITIES


Enterprise Brand & Marketing Strategy

  • Own overall brand architecture, positioning, and messaging strategy.
  • Establish long-term marketing and brand growth vision aligned with participation and membership objectives.
  • Lead integrated annual marketing planning across campaigns, communications, and events.
  • Oversee development of the USA Football brand narrative and storytelling strategy across all audiences.


Product, Membership & Participation Marketing

  • Own go-to-market strategies for membership, education, national teams, and participation initiatives.
  • Lead lifecycle marketing strategy across acquisition, engagement, and retention.
  • Partner with program and product leaders to align marketing with participation growth priorities.


Digital & Performance Marketing

  • Lead paid media, digital marketing, and audience targeting strategies.
  • Oversee CRM, lifecycle marketing, and marketing automation programs.
  • Drive marketing technology strategy and data-driven decision-making.


Integrated Campaign & Content Strategy

  • Establish enterprise campaign architecture and seasonal storytelling priorities.
  • Oversee content strategy, editorial planning, and social and influencer marketing initiatives.
  • Ensure consistent brand voice and messaging across all consumer and stakeholder channels.


Communications & Reputation Management

  • Oversee external communications, PR, media relations, and thought leadership strategy.
  • Ensure communications efforts support brand positioning, crisis management readiness, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Align communications planning with marketing campaigns, events, and organizational priorities.


Event Marketing & Experience Strategy

  • Oversee marketing and brand storytelling across national and regional events.
  • Ensure events serve as strategic platforms for participation growth, brand awareness, and commercial engagement.
  • Provide strategic oversight to event marketing planning, promotion strategy, and brand storytelling within live experiences.


Partnership & Commercial Marketing

  • Collaborate with partnership and commercial teams to develop integrated co-marketing and activation strategies.
  • Establish marketing frameworks that maximize sponsor value and storytelling integration.


Analytics & Performance Measurement

  • Define enterprise marketing KPIs aligned with organizational growth goals.
  • Oversee marketing and communications performance measurement and reporting.
  • Use research, consumer insights, and competitive analysis to guide innovation and strategy.


Organizational Leadership

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction across Brand Experience & Activation, Events, Communications/PR, Content/Creative, and Product & Digital Marketing.
  • Establish marketing investment priorities and resource allocation strategies.
  • Build and mentor a high-performing marketing organization.


QUALIFICATIONS


Experience

  • 15–20+ years of progressive leadership
  • 8–10+ years leading multi-functional teams across marketing, operations, partnerships, or events.
  • Demonstrated responsibility for department-wide strategy and execution.
  • Experience managing senior-level leaders (Director-level and above).


Enterprise Strategy & Financial Management

  • Direct involvement in organizational strategic planning.
  •  Experience managing significant budgets (ideally $5M+ department spend).
  •  Clear track record of driving measurable revenue growth, participation
  • growth, or enterprise transformation.
  •  Experience aligning cross-functional departments toward shared KPIs.


Organizational Complexity

Experience working within or alongside:

  • National governing bodies
  • Sports organizations
  • Membership-based organizations
  • Nonprofit organizations with commercial partnerships
  • Consumer brands with multi-channel engagement strategies


Commercial & Partnership Experience

  • Experience integrating marketing, sponsorship, events, and revenue objectives.
  • Oversight of partner-driven activations and commercial marketing initiatives.
  • Understanding of contractual marketing obligations and partner value delivery.


Leadership & Organizational Development

  • Experience restructuring teams or departments.
  • Leading through growth phases or brand repositioning.
  • Ability to build scalable systems and governance frameworks.


Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Sports Management, or a related field required.
  • MBA or relevant advanced degree preferred.
